Lexington Greenways Plan

Connected, Accessible, Sustainable.

The WHAT?

The Greenways Management Plan is a comprehensive document to help the city create a usable and connected system of parks, trails, and green spaces. The plan will assess important ecological corridors and connections, identify areas that need protection and conservation, as well as recreational uses. It will also include a guidebook for residents, including homeowners and neighborhood associations on best management practices for Greenways to ensure good stewardship.

The HOW?

Through the assessment of existing GIS data of canopy coverage, streams, parks, trail systems, existing greenways areas, and on the ground observation, we will develop a map of suitability for new greenway areas. Through stakeholder and public input, we will develop action items for priority projects to implement.

The WHY?

To enhance and preserve the unique, natural ecology of Lexington-Fayette County. To protect important wildlife corridors, and to build a stronger network of parks, trails, and open spaces. To create an overall “Greener” city to enhance our neighborhoods and support a growing city.
